What Long Term Care Insurance Plan is right for you?

Long term care insurance is an important financial tool for many people. Creating a long term care insurance policy designed around your primary concerns - and budget - is the step that will take the unknown out of this topic for you and your loved ones.

The questions below are designed to determine which concerns are paramount to you, and will help you and your insurance representative to create a policy that works today and into the future.

1. How important is it to you to preserve your assets for your family or to leave as bequest to charity?

It is very important to me.

It is somewhat important to me, but I'm more concerned with outliving my assets.

It is not important to me.

2. How important is it to you that you would be cared for in your home?

Not very important.

Somewhat important - but I realize this may be a transitional step.

3. How comfortable would you be relying on a spouse, family member or life partner to provide the daily home care you might need?

I anticipate that someone close to me - my spouse or partner, or a member of my family - would provide care for me should I need it.

If my family members should need to provide care for me, I want to ensure that they will have the financial resources that they need to do so.

I do not want my family members to bear the physical or emotional burden of caring for me, regardless of their willingness to do so. I also want to retain independence of choice in this matter.

4. The more assets you have, the greater the potential loss of assets if care should be required over an extended period of time. What are your total assets, not including your primary residence and car?

 

5. The costs of long term care are projected to rise over time, so how important is it to you that the benefits you select will be as valuable when you need them as they are today?

Very important that the benefits keep pace with inflation.
